Effective date: November 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Birthdly (birthdly.com) collects, how it is used and stored, and the choices you have. Birthdly is a free birthday calendar operated by an individual developer. By using Birthdly you agree to this policy and to the Terms of Service.
Information we collect
- Birthdays you add. The name and birth date (the birth year is optional) of each person you add to your calendar.
- Google account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account ID, email address, name, and profile picture. We use them only to create your Birthdly account and to show who is signed in.
- Google Calendar data. If you connect Google Calendar, Birthdly reads the birthday events in your primary calendar and creates, updates, and deletes the birthday events that Birthdly itself adds there. We store the IDs of those events so they stay in sync with your birthdays.
- Google Contacts data. If you connect Google Calendar, Birthdly also reads your Google contacts to import their names and birthdays into your Birthdly calendar. We store only the name, the birth date, and the contact ID of contacts that have a birthday. Other contact details, such as phone numbers, email addresses, or addresses, are not read or stored.
- Google refresh token. To keep syncing after you connect, we store a Google refresh token in an encrypted secret store.
Birthdly does not use advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies.
How we use your information
We use your information only to provide Birthdly's features to you: to show your birthdays on the calendar, keep them in your account on every device, sync them with your Google Calendar, and import birthdays from your Google contacts. We do not sell your information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the service providers listed below that are needed to run Birthdly.
Google user data
Birthdly requests these Google permissions only when you choose to connect Google Calendar:
- See, create, change, and delete events on Google calendars you own (
calendar.events.owned): to add your Birthdly birthdays to your primary Google Calendar, keep them up to date, remove them when you disconnect, and read existing birthday events. - See and download your contacts (
contacts.readonly): to import the names and birthdays of your Google contacts.
Birthdly's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:
- Google user data is used only to provide the user-facing features described above.
- Google user data is not transferred to others, except as needed to provide those features, to comply with the law, or with your consent.
- Google user data is not used for advertising, including personalized, retargeted, or interest-based advertising.
- No person reads your Google user data, unless you give consent or it is needed for security or to comply with the law.
- Google user data is not used to develop, improve, or train generalized AI or machine learning models.
Where your information is stored
- Without an account, birthdays are saved only in your browser's local storage on your device and are not sent to our servers. When you sign in, they are moved from the browser into your account.
- With an account, your data is stored in a database hosted by Supabase. Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and access to each user's data is restricted to that user.
Service providers
- Supabase — database, authentication, and server functions.
- DigitalOcean — website hosting. Like any web host, it processes your IP address and request logs.
- Google — sign-in, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts, when you choose to use them.
- Google Fonts — delivers the icon font, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads.
Data retention and deletion
- We keep your data while your account exists. You can delete any birthday in the app at any time.
- Disconnecting Google Calendar in Settings revokes Birthdly's access to your Google account, deletes the stored Google token, and attempts to remove the birthday events Birthdly added to your Google Calendar. If removing them fails, they stay in your Google Calendar, where you can delete them yourself.
- Birthdays imported from Google Contacts (name, birth date, and contact ID) stay in your Birthdly account after you disconnect, until you delete them or ask us to delete your account.
- You can also revoke Birthdly's access at any time on your Google Account permissions page.
- To delete your account and all associated data, email us at [email protected]. We delete it within 30 days.
- Birthdays saved without an account can be removed by deleting them in the app or clearing your browser's site data.
Children
Birthdly is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we change the effective date above.
